Format portrait of Abbie Snow (Hart) Ernst, only daughter of Thomas N. Hart, Mayor of Boston, from 1889 to 1890 and from 1900 to 1902.;Abbie Snow Hart married Carl Wilhelm Ernst in 1885. Ernst was born in Hanover Germany in 1845 and came to the United States when he was eighteen years of age. He studied theology and became a Lutheran minister, first in Illinois and later in Providence, Rhode Island. After giving up the ministry, he became a journalist at the Providence Journal, worked at Brown University, earning an M.A. from that institution in 1875. In 1879, Ernst moved to Boston to continue working as a journalist and in 1889 became secretary to Mayor Thomas N. Hart.--from Of Matters Lexicographical, Mitford M.
