Black and white photograph with ball point pen noting the Splitting Department at the Boston Mat Leather Factory, Peabody, Massachusetts, 1918. There are eight men in what appears to be a posed photo. The man to the viewer's far right is the same man as in 2002.537.8, with the vest, pants and glasses. Over his head is gears and pulleys. The two men to his left stand at a wooden horse, showing some of the hides. The shorter man with glasses is smiling. Further back in the middle of the photo are three men, one at a table with hides on it, the other two leaning against the back wall. The man standing on a wooden pallet in the center wears work overalls, wire rimmed glasses and a hat. The man on the viewer's far left stands behind the machinery.
